ESankeien:
Sankeien is a Japanese-style garden, extending over 175,000 square meters in Yokohama. It was built and landscaped by Sankei Hara, a wealthy silk trading businessman who was a lover of art. He called himself "Sankei". The garden, named after him, was opened to the public in 1906. After suffering extensive damage during World WarU, the garden was transferred in 1953 from the Hara Family to the Sankei Hoshokai Foundation for preservation. Restoration work began in the following year, and by 1958 almost all the area had been restored. Historic buildings collected from the Kyoto and Kamakura areas are special features of this garden which are artistically arranged amid the seasonal natural landscape. There are ten nationally designated buildings of important cultural property and three tangible cultural properties designated by the City of Yokohama to be found there.
